Energy Saving Tips
Each year the energy consumption of the average household produces over 8 tonnes of greenhouse gases when it is generated. This is roughly equivalent to the emissions of 2 cars over a year!
Jackgreen is dedicated to building the demand for renewable energy and to providing an easy and inexpensive way for people to help the environment. Renewable energy offers a much smarter solution than burning fossil fuels!
As a Jackgreen customer, you have already begun to make a difference to your household emissions.
Now you can follow some easy tips to save energy and reduce your energy costs:
- Don't leave the lights on — lighting accounts for around 15% of your energy use. Either use a pre-programmed timer or switch off your lights when you are away on holiday.
- Switch off appliances that you are not using at the wall — computers & other appliances that are never switched off add dollars to your bill. So turn them off at the switch instead of leaving them on Standby.
- Use air conditioning units only when necessary — when the weather is cooler, use other options to cool off such as opening the windows or using a fan. When using the air conditioner, make sure you shade any windows that get direct sunlight to reduce the amount of radiant heat in the room. This will increase the impact of cooling and therefore decrease the amount of time it needs to be on.
- Keep the doors closed — close the kitchen door when you use the oven or stove to keep the heat out of the rest of the house. Opening a window to let the heat escape is a great way to cool the kitchen quickly after cooking.
- Natural sun protection — landscaping not only improves the appearance of your home, it also helps reduce cooling costs. Planting bushes or trees will give you some extra shade and protect your house from the glare of the sun.
- Insulate against the heat — keep cool by installing wall and ceiling insulation. A well-insulated home can be up to seven degrees warmer in Winter and, more importantly, up to ten degrees cooler in Summer.
