How do I know if Jackgreen is available in my local neighbourhood?Jackgreen is licensed by the New South Wales, Victorian, South Australian and Queensland Governments to retail energy. To confirm availability of Jackgreen in your local neighborhood, click here or call us on How does the electricity system work? The National Electricity Market is a series of interconnected networks – ranging from the largest interstate transmission lines to the poles and wires you see in your street. Every generating unit is connected to this grid, and the power they generate is blended together – this is referred to as the ‘pool’. The pool is made up of many types of generation, from solar, wind and hydro renewable generators through to coal and other fossil fuel burning plants. Electricity from the pool runs through the network to end users. When you turn on a light or an appliance, it draws power from the pool. The National Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO) administers the electricity pool, and makes sure enough power is generated to meet demand from all users. Retailers like Jackgreen are responsible for the power used by their customers – a retailer acts as an intermediary between the NEMMCO and the pool, and end use customers. What does Jackgreen do?As a licensed Electricity retail company, Jackgreen manages the purchase of electricity from the pool on behalf of its customers. Jackgreen is not responsible for the physical delivery of electricity to your premises – that’s taken care of by the Distribution companies that own the poles and wires. When you choose to become a customer of Jackgreen, we advise the National Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO) who registers your electricity meter as a Jackgreen meter. Once this process is complete, you will receive your electricity bills from Jackgreen instead of your previous supplier. In addition to managing electricity use for our customers, Jackgreen only markets renewable energy products accredited by GreenPower. This means that any greenhouse gas emissions relating to your electricity use are offset by renewable energy that is put into the pool. What is renewable energy, and who is GreenPower? Most of the energy generated into the pool comes from burning fossil fuel such as coal. When burnt, these sources create greenhouse gases which lead to climate change. Renewable energy is generation from natural sources, such as water (hydro electricity), wind (wind turbines) and the sun (solar panels or ‘photovoltaic’, also known as PV). These types of generation do not emit any greenhouse gas. GreenPower is a government body that oversees the renewable electricity industry, certifying renewable generators and retailers to ensure that standards are maintained and that customers who sign up to renewable energy retail products are getting what they pay for. For more information about the GreenPower scheme, visit www.greenpower.nsw.gov.au. How does Jackgreen's pricing & billing work? All electricity usage is charged by kilowatt-hour (kWh), plus a standard supply charge to "deliver" electricity to your home. Jackgreen's rates are matched to existing electricity suppliers regulated retail tariff (or default rate in VIC) for a particular service area. Because of the way electricity is "delivered" there are variations in prices across different service areas.
