From the Managing Director

Welcome to the latest Jackgreen Chronicle from your dedicated renewable energy provider!

Have you noticed lately the amount of attention being focussed in the media on Climate Change? This is a positive sign that Australians are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment and the need to do something whilst we have the opportunity.

Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” brings home the scientific proof of global warming and its potentially catastrophic effects. Thankfully it finishes on a very positive note - that this can be prevented by people like you and I consciously deciding to make changes such as switching to renewable energy. Included below is a review of the movie – compelling viewing.

So thank you again for your decision to choose and stay with Jackgreen — be assured that you are making a positive choice for your environment. We hope your friends can join us!

Regards,
Andrew

National Tree Day

Each year Jackgreen participates in Plant Ark’s National Tree Day, where members of the community get together to “green” up local areas. This years’ National Tree Day was held at Rodney Reserve, Dover Heights.

With the assistance of Waverly Council and players from the Randwick Rugby Club, 2000 trees where planted this year! A big thank you to staff and families that participated on making the day happen.

Randwick Council partners with Jackgreen

Thanks to a deal between Randwick Council and Jackgreen, Randwick’s residents and rugby players will be able to gallop down the green energy path. In an Australian first, Randwick residents will be able to convert their home Greenpower accredited electricity at no extra cost. The initiative was launched yesterday at Coogee oval, home of the Galloping Greens, with the Mayor of Randwick and Randwick Rugby Club players Adam Freier and Chris Houston being the first to sign up to the new initiative.

An Inconvenient Truth

Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced

If that sounds like a recipe for serious gloom and doom -- think again. From director Davis Guggenheim comes the Sundance Film Festival hit, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH , which offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on a last-ditch, all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his "travelling global warming show," Gore also proves himself to be one of the most misunderstood characters in modern American public life. Here he is seen as never before in the media - funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" out to ordinary citizens before it's too late.

From our Research Department

As a relevant example of the messages portrayed in “An Inconvenient Truth”, the Bureau of Metrology’s latest climate summary has confirmed the month just past as the “Warmest September on record in Sydney”. In 147 years of record, last month was the 9th consecutive September with above average temperatures. This follows a mild winter, many warm, sunny days in autumn and the warmest years on record of 2005 and 2004.
