NEWS ReleaseAustralians turn to energy that doesn’t cost the earth. December 9, 2005 - Australians have had enough of black energy and are turning to renewable alternatives in droves.Jackgreen, the renewable energy retailer, has recently announced that it has signed up 10,000 customers. Numbers are expected to soar as more and more Aussies choose to reduce their impact on the environment and go for an energy source that doesn’t ‘cost the earth’. Jon Dee, Founder of Planet Ark says that Jackgreen’s 10,000 customers signing up for renewable energy is equivalent to taking 30,000 cars off the road. “An average home that signs up with Jackgreen can prevent about eight tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year – that’s the same as taking two cars off the road for a whole year. Just think of the difference one million households switching to Jackgreen would make!”* Jackgreen guarantees that for every kilowatt hour of energy used by our customers, an off-setting kilowatt hour of renewable energy is generated from sources such as wind and low impact hydro. What
does "cars off the road" mean? About Jackgreen Since Jackgreen started trading in April 2005 every customer that we have signed up has made a conscious decision to move away from ‘black’ coal generated electricity. We believe that everyone can make a difference, and if we all ‘do our bit’ we can reduce the amount of harmful greenhouse gases that are polluting our atmosphere and contributing to climate change. Recent research by Datamonitor** shows that over 90% of customers will not purchase renewable energy unless it is price competitive with traditional energy. Our goal is to contribute to an incremental change in consumer behaviour. We believe that the only way to do that is to offer 100% renewable energy at no extra cost. So that’s what we do. Jackgreen is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX:JGL). ** Report: ‘Marketing Green Energy in Australia’ Published 31 May 2005 (www.datamonitor.com) |
