Media ReleaseJACKGREEN gets a TICK from GREEN POWER!22nd February, 2006 JackgreenPower™ gets Green Power accreditation! The National Green Power Accreditation Program (National GPAP)and it’s project manager The NSW Department of Energy Utilities and Sustainability (DEUS) has notified Jackgreen that its soon to be released JackgreenPower TM product for residential and SME customers (sourced from 10% accredited Green Power) has received accreditation under the National GPAP scheme. The product will be guaranteed to be 100% new renewable energy* with at least 10% coming from Green Power accredited generation. What does all of this mean? Well, it’s simpler than it sounds: The Green Power product JackgreenPower TM will support investment in new renewable projects immediately, where the current Jackgreen product, sold at no extra cost** works on increasing the demand of renewable energy and thereby supply over time. Jackgreen’s Managing Director, Andrew Randall, stated that “the Green Power accredited product is a significant step forward for Jackgreen and consistent with our plans to take our customers on a journey of change. We have made a commitment to DEUS that we will offer this product to all our prospective customers first and seek to be a significant contributor of new Green Power customers”. This position is in line with the recent NSW Government Greenhouse Plan whereby retailers will be required to offer at least 10% accredited Green Power product before any other product next financial year. “We applaud the Government in its initiative to promote Green Power through this policy measure and want to come out early in support of it. This type of Government support will assist to make significant movement into renewable take up. Our preference however would be for the policy to go further and to make it mandatory for all retail electricity offerings to be at least 10% Green Power accredited. Ms. Colette Grigg (National Green Power Accreditation Program Manager) has congratulated Jackgreen on the development of their "Green Power product" and further suggested that they “look forward to working with Jackgreen in the future to further increase support for the new renewable energy development in Australia”. One of Jackgreen’s community partners, Planet Ark has strongly supported Jackgreen and has applauded this business strategy. Jon Dee, Planet Ark’s founder stated, “Jackgreen is an electricity retailer with a difference: it offers only renewable energy products and successfully makes it easier for the average consumer to access renewable energy. The results now speak for themselves with tens of thousands of consumers now converting to Jackgreen. We look forward to working with Jackgreen as it continues to push new initiatives for change.” |
