10 Years of Planet Ark Recycling Week!

According to Planet Ark, Australia's recycling performance over the past decade can be described as "the good, the bad and the ugly". That is, it is good that newspaper recycling has gone up from 52.7% in 1995 to 74.5% today and we are recycling 600 million more aluminium cans than we were 10 years ago.

There will always be room for improvement, however. "The bad" refers to talk instead of action - 68% of Australians told Roy Morgan research that they wanted to recycle more paper at the office but nearly 9 out of every 10 sheets of office paper are being thrown away!

The "ugly" side is that whilst Australians are recycling more, the average person is still responsible for generating 2.25kg of waste every day.

Founder of Planet Ark, Jon Dee, says "Each of us can do a lot more to recycle better and waste less. It's a moral responsibility that we owe to our kids as well as to future generations of Australians."

A range of recycled clothing was presented on the day.
